Here are the nine steps I used to win in business.

Business is hard, I was there, I get it. Also, you can win in business, even with unconventional ways.

Choose your hard

You can work hard for someone else’s dreams, or you can work hard for your dreams. But you can’t do both at the same time. Despite your fears, working for yourself is also working for your family.

Here’s how I win…

  1. Make a BIG Goal, particularly when it comes to your business.
  2. Build a Game Plan
  3. Stick to the plan – no matter what
  4. You need to do the work!
  5. Don’t blame anyone else and also take responsibility.
  6. Be on time, because being late is rude.
  7. Get OCD
  8. Have high expectations of yourself and others
  9. Get fit and strong and mobile
  10. Bonus: Don’t stop Never quit

You’ve been told you’re stupid for not remembering things.

You sat in a room with no windows and told to “just study harder”.

You’ve been told you’re not good enough for forgetting your homework.

Struggled in school to get straight A’s? But you’re intuitive and great with your hands?

It’s what has helped me be able to charge $250/hour for physical therapy when everyone else thinks physical therapy is only worth the co-pay.

I why I am a coach and have a coach.

This is also what gets me in trouble in personal relationships.

It was really hard listening to my ex when she just wanted to process her feelings and what happened. I just wanted to solve the problem, make a decision and move on.

It’s even what bugs me about my mom.

She’s always trying to solve my problems instead of just listening to me.

it’s why my daughter and I clash, fight or bicker as other people see it. She also wants to be heard and with every problem I see a simple solution.

5 Ways I manage my ADHD

1) Write it down – Make Lists

2) Calendar – if it doesn’t exist in my calendar it’s not happening.

3) Take action on the small things and complete the tasks

4) Time Timer 0- time block

5) Maintain a routine

-keys/wallet always in the same place,

-Wake up and workout at the same times

-weekly schedule – work in the morning, calls in the afternoons

6) Medicate – Take Ritalin – it keeps me from having to jungle all the balls, even in the afternoons when I’m with my kids

The bigger the problem you can solve the more impact you will have and the more money you can make.

The Right Time to Quit

I’ve always said, you only loose when you quit, so don’t quit.

It’s when you’re spending more time and energy on a project than it is giving you back in return or has a potential to give you in the future.

Last year, I was asked for a divorce.

It rocked my world.

I had joined the Black Belt mastermind, built the systems and then when I had no capacity to operate in my business the systems helped me continue to grow.

Going into Business with a Partner

 

Should I go into business with my wife, partner or spouse?

The answer is complicated

I’ve had clients who’ve been really successful doing this and in the last year I’ve had 3 clients leave the programs or their business due to a divorce and I’ve experienced my own divorce where we were partners in the clinic.

It made navigating work and our relationship really difficult, though it wasn’t the reason for our divorce, it didn’t help.

Have a Conversation – multiple

 

Must have a shared vision


Discuss and divide the roles/responsibilities


Create boundaries around working together 

  • Date night with no talk about work
  • Weekly check in about your relationship
  • Weekly meeting dedicated to work/business


There may be 1 person who seems to do more in the business and more at home

It’s not a contest

Both partners should always be trying to do more than the other

Here some things to consider:
1) Do you both want to fill the same roles? Ie: both treat patients, both do the marketing, both be the visionary?
Or Are your strengths and interests complimentary?
2) Should to have a trial period and need an exit strategy if it doesn’t work or feel right.
Set expectations, have a “safe” word

Should have an operating agreement that deals with dissolution of the business, and depending on the laws of your state, your business may belong to your partner in marriage whether they work in the business or not.

12 lessons I learned from getting a divorce

I’m officially divorced!

We were together for 22 years, married for 17 and Yes we had been having issues, seen therapists, regularly checked in and talked through our challenges, even made it through covid, but then something shifted.

A few days after PT Biz con 2022 my wife at the time asked for a divorce.

The last 15 months have been some of the hardest up and down months in my life, especially 2 months directly after PT Biz Con Live 2023 this year.

I’m sure if you’ve been a long time listener you might have noticed a shift. Maybe you haven’t. Maybe you guessed something was up.

Up until now I’ve been hesitant to share this because 


#1 I didn’t believe it was really true and didn’t know how to talk about it or who I could without disparaging someone I knew and loved for 22 years

#2 I didn’t want to share anything until I knew that everything was complete, finalized and official because I didn’t want it to make my life even more difficult

#3 I didn’t want to make it all about me because my duty on this podcast and in my coaching business is to my subscribers, listeners and clients so it’s taken a while to start to process what happened in a way that my story can hopefully be helpful to you

I hope if you are currently in a committed relationship that you can learn a few things to make it even better

If you are divorced or working through a divorce you know you are not alone, because I know I sure felt that way at times.

I have a lot of lessons to share in upcoming episodes about business and life and I feel like I need to share this with you so there is context as I try to pass along the lessons I’ve learned through this process in business and in life.

So far everything is chill, the kids are doing great, I’ve got 50/50 custody and have spent more time with them in the last year and a half and built a stronger bond with them, than I was able in the years before separating.

Lessons Learned:

1) When things are tough, lean on your friends and team

2) Systems to grow your business are vital. – what I learned and set up in BlackBelt helped me continue to grow my business when I didn’t have the capacity to do more than the basic necessities.

3) Take your time – don’t rush the process. In NC you have to be separated a year before filing for a divorce. I’m glad I waited because what I learned along the way, changed my outcome and situation.

4) karma is a bitch

6) It’s the tough things that you go through that will make you even stronger

7)Aligned in vision and tell the truth.

8) No and the truth doesn’t hurt my feelings

9) There is not “the one” there is “the one right now”

10) Make the decision and be ok with the other person’s emotional regulation

11) Find someone who supports you and doesn’t drain you

12) If you’re in a relationship, learn more about how to be better in a relationship, better lover, communicator and partner – listen to podcasts and personal development shows.

 

I have a clear and defined path forward. I’m no longer being held back in my business and  now have a higher bar to earn even more money to ensure that the amount of $ I am paying out every month is inconsequential to me


I’ve already had a few close friends reach out to me this year for relationship advice.
It was weird because I don’t feel like I’m the best to give relationship advice, lol! but, they were both struggling in their marriage and I had just been through the worst of it.
